Building the R&D of Leadership

The New Zealand Leadership Institute in partnership with the International Leadership Association hosted a leadership conference in April 2013 at the University of Auckland Business School, Auckland, New Zealand.

Building the R&D of Leadership

This conference set out to explore the space of the ‘and’ that sits between leadership research and leadership development. We wanted to bring Researchers, Developers and Learning & Development practitioners out of their respective worlds and into conversation together. It is critical that we strengthen these connections to identify innovative ways forward that inform the thinking and impact this leadership realm can create.

Leadership seems a ripe space for this theory/ practice encounter. Practice has the promise to ground what can be theoretical and academic tendencies in leadership orientated research. Research in turn has the capacity to test and deepen what can be highly idealized statements of leadership behavior and attribution.

This conference aimed to engage with the issues that have the power to either unite or divide those who are interested in leadership and its development:

  • What is leadership for?
  • Who needs to be developed?
  • How development impact can be tracked and tested?

We invite you to take a look through the conference brochure and browse the archives of presentations and papers presented at the ILA Oceania 2013 Conference.
