Leadership exists in the spaces between people. When we consider leadership from this perspective, the emphasis shifts from the traditional qualities of the hero leader to a more dispersed leadership that relies on interaction and engagement. In this more collective view of leadership, community is a central theme, where connection, collaboration and shared understanding are critical.
NZLI exists within a vibrant and diverse community of leadership researchers and practitioners. We acknowledge that leadership work is happening everywhere, and we have no desire to claim this space as our own. Our connections within this community enable us to contribute to and learn from the myriad of leadership research and development initiatives that are already in motion.
We relish our opportunities to host international leadership scholars, engage in collaborative research projects and connect with a growing number of leadership practitioners within New Zealand.
Like all vibrant communities, it is our hope that this one will continue to evolve organically as we encounter new opportunities to build relationships and work together with others in this exciting field.
